1. Thermal stress, i.e., thermal expansion and contraction caused by temperature difference. Thermal stress is one of the main destructive forces on exterior-wall insulation boards of high-rise buildings. It causes volumetric changes in non-structural elements, keeping them in an unstable state. High-rise buildings receive stronger sunlight, and therefore thermal stress is greater and deformation is also greater.
2. Wind pressure: generally speaking, positive wind pressure produces thrust, and negative wind pressure produces suction. Both will cause great damage to exterior-wall insulation boards of high-rise buildings, especially under negative wind pressure, when the volume of the air layer inside the exterior-wall insulation board will expand and cause damage to the exterior-wall insulation board.

3. Seismic force. Seismic force can cause compression, shear, or torsional deformation of high-rise structures and external wall insulation boards. The stiffer the insulation board, the greater the seismic force it bears, and the more severe the possible damage.
4. Water or water vapor. Insulation boards are water-absorbent; over years, migration of water or vapor can cause wall condensation or increased moisture content inside the insulation layer.
5. Fire. High-rise buildings have higher fire-protection ratings than multi-story buildings; external wall insulation boards of high-rises should have better fire resistance.
